Reflections on My Experience With the Traineeship Thus Far – By Danielle Reeves

My story started when I was a Retail Manager with an ambition to be fulfilled both professionally and personally in a rewarding career choice.

When my position was made redundant, I was working part time and had to apply for assistance with Centrelink for the first time in my life. I decided to fill my time by volunteering at a local community cafe that was a ministry of St Luke’s Frankston East.

I fell in love with welcoming disabled participants and encouraging the development of their social skills.

I researched and looked for opportunities to move across industries, but to no avail during pandemic times.

That’s when I received an urgent call from Emily – my case worker at Job Prospects – to tell me about this opportunity at Sunrise2Sunrise.

I jumped at the chance and changed my shifts at work over the course of a few hours; I was determined to not let this opportunity pass by. I’m so glad I didn’t.

How has this program been of benefit.

From the first moment, I was attracted to the passion and care demonstrated by everyone I have met through the Sunrise2Sunrise program.

The support has been amazing, bolstering my confidence and helping me navigate from where I was before to where I am now.

I am incredibly grateful for the professionalism and care shown by everyone, from facilitators of the induction program to my colleagues and house manager who have been so welcoming and encouraging.

I have learned so much and pinch myself at moments. I am thankful and privileged to know and care for my two current participants who make every day a great day.

I could not be happier, and I love to call myself a part of the Sunrise2Sunrise family!
